N° 306 sakura constellation hoodie - sumi black/yuki white - XL

A repurposed midweight organic cotton French terry hoodie with a standard, relaxed unisex fit. Soft, looped terry interior, adjustable grosgrain drawstring hood with a front kangaroo pocket.   This hoodie is embroidered entirely by hand in my New York studio. Every stitch is a freehand constellation stitch, sewn with antique Nishijin silk thread from Kyoto over 6 hours. No template or pattern is used, so no two pieces are ever the same.

The sakura are pressed flowers, hand-cut, stitched, and formed from leftover cotton hanten scraps, remnants of the Kurume crepe made by KuwanoShinken. I wanted to give those scraps a second life, so each blossom is sewn on one by one. It’s a one-of-one piece, and it matches the sakura scarf.

• Process: Hand-embroidered with the constellation stitch, freehand

• Embellishment: Pressed sakura flowers, hand-cut and hand-sewn from leftover silk kimono & silk scraps. 

• Thread: Antique Nishijin silk thread, naturally dyed in Kyoto

• Construction: Flowers are hand-sewn onto the hoodie and hand-embroidered with Nishijin silk thread throughout.  

Dimensions 

• Size XL.  The hoodie has a loose, relaxed fit, true to size.

Edition: 1/1 Singular Object. Ready to ship.
