A singular botanical study hand-sculpted from repurposed Japanese silk kimonos and reclaimed archival textiles. Sourced from Japan and hand-repaired, each piece uses antique and vintage Japanese silk fragments.

Constructed from layered kimono remnants and raw textile fringe, each bloom mimics the natural drape and delicate decay of falling petals. Hand-stitched with pure silk thread, the piece reveals subtle variations in tone, natural slubs, and raw-edge finishes.

I work without industrial factory molds or patterns, cutting, shaping, and hand-stitching every petal one by one. This slow, labor-intensive work carries forward a family tradition of giving damaged historical textiles new life.

These preserved textiles exist in small, unrepeatable lengths. Some fabrics yield a small, limited run, while others produce only a single flower. Once a specific fabric is used, it can never be replaced. Subtle shifts in grain, aged patina, and organic drape ensure that every piece remains singular.

Details & Craft

  • Process: Each petal is cut, hand-sculpted, and hand-stitched one by one in my New York Studio; zero machine stamping.

  • Finish: Raw edge detailing throughout, celebrating the natural fraying and softening of aging silk.

  • Hardware: Finished with a classic pin backing.  A magnet backing is also available for delicate garments you prefer not to pierce.

Dimensions

  • Flower Size: M

  • 2.5" W x 2.5" H

Material Care

Aged wear and subtle shifts in texture are part of the silk's history, not a defect.  Slight fraying over time is a natural characteristic of raw-edge vintage textiles.  Spot clean only when necessary, and gently reshape the petals by hand as needed.

Presentation
