A canvas tote hand-sculpted from durable, heavyweight deadstock cotton canvas and repurposed Japanese silk kimonos. Sourced directly from Japan, I repair each antique silk fragment by hand before cutting, shaping, and hand-applying each crushed bloom onto grosgrain ribbon anchored to the canvas. Built with a sturdy, durable structure, clean French seams, and long shoulder straps for daily use, with an interior pocket for essentials.

I work without industrial factory molds or patterns, cutting, shaping, and hand-stitching every petal one by one. This slow, labor-intensive work carries forward a family tradition of giving damaged historical textiles new life.

These preserved textiles exist in small, unrepeatable lengths. Some fabrics yield a small, limited run, while others produce only a single tote. Once a specific fabric is used, it can never be replaced. Subtle shifts in grain, aged patina, and tone ensure that every piece remains singular.

Details & Craft

  • Process: Durable, heavy-weight deadstock cotton canvas finished with French seams throughout. Each crushed bloom is individually cut, hand-sculpted, and hand-applied onto grosgrain ribbon before being stitched onto the bag. The flowers shown are representative; due to the handmade process, slight variations in color, shape, and placement occur while honoring the same design sensibility.
  • Storage: Features a spacious main compartment with an interior drop pocket for essentials.
  • Finish: Raw edge detailing on the silk blooms, celebrating the natural fraying and softening of aging silk.

Dimensions

  • Size: One size
  • Measurements:  Approx. 16 inches W x 15 inches H

Edition: 1/1 Singular Object

Material Care

Aged wear and subtle shifts in texture belong to the history of the silk, not a defect. Slight fraying over time is a natural characteristic of raw-edge vintage textiles. Spot-clean canvas and silk only when necessary, and gently reshape the petals by hand as needed.
