N° 91 crushed blooms headscarf- ame pink

A headscarf hand-sculpted from repurposed Japanese silk kimonos and deadstock tulle. I gather and shape the sheer tulle base, then hand-crush, crumple, and shape each silk petal to give the flowers their soft, wrinkled texture. I hand-sew each crushed bloom onto the band and tulle, letting the flowers drape down the length like falling blooms.

I work without industrial factory molds or patterns, cutting, shaping, and hand-stitching every petal. This slow, labor-intensive work carries forward a family tradition of giving damaged historical textiles new life.

These preserved textiles exist in small, unrepeatable lengths. Some fabrics yield a small, limited run, while others produce only a single headscarf. Once a specific fabric is used, it can never be replaced. Subtle shifts in grain, aged patina, and tone ensure that every piece remains singular.

• Process:  Gathered deadstock tulle shaped by hand, with each crushed bloom individually cut, sculpted, and hand-sewn onto the band. The flowers shown are representative; due to the handmade process, slight variations in color, shape, and placement occur while honoring the same design sensibility.

• Finish: Raw edge detailing throughout, celebrating the natural fraying and softening of aging silk.

Material Care

Aged wear and subtle shifts in texture belong to the history of the silk, not a defect. Slight fraying over time is a natural characteristic of raw edge vintage textiles. Spot clean only when necessary, and gently reshape the petals by hand as needed.

Presentation

Each headscarf arrives in a handmade paper box, made with the same deliberate care as the brooch itself, with a handwritten provenance card.  Ready to gift or keep for yourself.
