Each item is made from rare vintage and antique silk kimono textiles, often only enough for one or two garments. Once the textile is gone, that exact shade, weave, or pattern can’t be sourced again.
Repurposed from a 100% silk haori 羽織, (a traditional Japanese jacket worn over a kimono originally designed for samurai as a practical outer layer for warmth and protection) textile lining, silk haori lining dating back to the early 20th century, a silk kurotomesode 黒留袖, kimono (the most formal kimono for married women in Japan, traditionally worn at weddings and celebratory events) and a tamaito silk yarn, made from a unique process involving two silk worms that spin a single cocoon together, resulting in a thicker robust silk fiber.
This rare, labor-intensive yarn adds strength and a texture that combines heritage and traditional craftsmanship. The original haori and kimono seams are preserved, honoring the garment's history and craftsmanship with unique patterns and hand-painted techniques that have stood the test of time.
Unisex, relaxed fit with a structured, crisp feel while maintaining the fluidity of silk. Hand-painted island landscape and hand-applied top thread stitching. Shell buttons, 1930s-1960s. Raw edge detailing throughout. Each garment is cut individually by hand. One of a kind.
Size and garment measurements:
Size S: Front length 28" / Back length 31" / Chest 22" / Sleeve length from high point shoulder 29.5". Fits sizes S/M, depending on desired fit. The model is 5'5" and traditionally wears a size S.
